Want to lose weight? Your in the right place!
When most people think of bottled water, it is the image that marketers want to conjure up that comes to their minds most often. Commercialization of these bottled water products consists of toned and healthy athletes drinking a refreshing bottle of water after an exceptionally difficult athletic event. Some will even attempt the old “sex sells” agenda and show a beautiful young woman holding and enjoying a bottle of water.
There is no doubt that bottled water has exploded in popularity in recent years in no small part due to the efforts of slick marketing campaigns and there is no doubt that the popularity has been noticed by other drink manufacturers as well. There are, literally, dozens of brands of bottled water available, many of which are sold in the same store. However, this bottled water mania begs the question: is it worth the money to buy bottled water if there is another source of water available?
Is the price of botteled water worth paying?
Surprisingly enough to many people, the answer is yes. There is nothing especially spectacular about bottled water, save for its marketing campaigns that convince us all that it’s the best thing since…well, ever. Corporations that manufacture (if you can call bottling water “manufacturing”) and distribute bottled water are out to make the most profits from the least amount of expenditure possible. If they can do this by bottling water, then there is no doubt that they will.
Is tap water worst for you than botteled water?
The short answer is no. The long answer involves a little chemistry in that regional water sample analyses must be made and then compared to bottled water in order to give a truly correct answer. However, city municipal water must adhere to strict standards of inspection in order to be sent to homes. No matter what the fear-mongering bottled water makers say, your tap water is just as safe.
Conversely, there are more children getting more cavities in recent years than in previous years because they are not reaping the benefits of the added fluoride that is prevalent in regular tap water. Additionally, many bottled water types come with artificial flavors and even sugar to enhance their taste, meaning that they can actually be much worse for you than tap water.
What if I like the taste of bottled water more than tap water?
You don’t have to raid your grocery store for bottled water, that’s for sure. Home tap water filters are very popular for pulling out tiny impurities that exist in tap water that affect the taste. These filters can be attached directly to your faucet or can be placed in a special water pitcher for use. There are even filters that can be placed in your refrigerator’s water dispenser.
Water filtration systems tend to be quite reasonable; much more so than your average monthly bottled water expenditure. They are easy to use after installation as well. For the faucet-mounted filters, you simply turn the selector and turn on the faucet. For the pitcher-mounted filters you simply pour the water into the pitcher and it’s automatically cleaned. Filter replacement is as easy as snapping the old one out and the new one in.
Water Filtration Systems
These can be more expensive and harder to maintain than the simple filters for your drinking water. This kind of large filtration system works on all of the water that comes into your home and is often necessary if you area has what is called “hard water” which can leave residue in sinks and bathtubs that is difficult to clean. Home filtration systems use pellets as filters that must be changed out periodically for maximum effectiveness as well.
Conclusion: Bottled Water is Just not Worth It
Bottled water manufacturers ask for a premium for doing nothing more than filtering and distributing the Earth’s most abundant natural resource. While water in a bottle may come in handy when there is simply no other means of obtaining water available, there is no reason to purchase it if you have access to another source. Stop buying bottled water for one month and you may be surprised at the money that you save.
